A Giving Thing |

Two sisters, Laura and Katherine got together one night and began to reminisce about their childhood. We had grown up in a very poor family and although we both know that our parents did the best they could for us, both of us feel as though our holidays were always lacking in “holiday spirit”. As we talked, Katherine brought out a small bag of bracelets that remained from the hand made gifts she had given the year before. Of course, Laura took one for herself as Katherine explained that she had made bracelets for her coworkers to try to help raise their holiday spirits. Katherine remained in California and Laura returned to Colorado and a few months passed, but the conversation was never forgotten. Although both of us are grown, with adult children of our own and have led fairly successful lives, neither of us will ever forget the struggles of our childhood. Katherine being the oldest and Laura being the youngest of a family of four siblings both have different memories but one thing that tugs at both their hearts is the lack of spirit at the holiday season. Together they decided to try to help other’s who struggle for the same and A Giving Thing was born. Katherine and Laura make glass beaded bracelets and give them away to anyone they feel needs a little pick-me-up. Christmas of 2007 Laura put the bracelets in some of the local Denver area businesses and the little “giving trees” she made were a big success. What started as a little Christmas spirit has now become a year round giving tree. The bracelets are FREE, no catches, no strings attached and come in a variety of sizes; ranging from a very small child size to a large woman size. Of course real glass beads are fairly pricey so we are limited to the number of bracelets we can make each year. If you would like to help out by giving a small donation then please do so.
